TV Kisses

Television brings the romance home. On the small screen (growing larger every year), we invite characters into our lives. They become friends, sometimes our best friends, and we follow their happiness and sorrow from week to week as if it were our own.

The regularity with which they enter our daily and weekly routine lends them a credence beyond that of a reality show, soap opera, weekly drama, or mini-series. Although even in their simplicity these characters are larger than life, we embue them with our own desires, goals, and accomplishments. As much as they are different and unreal, they are us.

Holding our collective breath, we await the long anticipated climax of a relationship. We laugh. We cry. And we savor the first kiss, the make-up kiss, and the goodbye kiss.
