Movie Kisses

Perhaps the screen kiss can claim the greatest influence on our romantic fantasies than other media. After all, it is literally larger than life. Not to mention embedded in a beautiful, even sad, storyline brought to life by actors and actresses that we both identify with and long to be like.

We wait for the screen kiss, holding our breath lest it not be perfect, our hearts beating faster in keeping with the emotion of the moment, and sighing (inwardly if not audibly) with the powerful release of desire. From the first on-screen kiss in 1896 through the longest-lasting kiss (between Jane Wyman and Regis Tommey–1941, You’re In The Army Now, 3:05) and the highly touted flirtation and kiss in The Thomas Crown Affair (Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen–1968) to the newest chick flick release, we willingly suspend disbelief and let the waves, music, and star power crash over us.

And now . . . enjoy world-class celluiloid kisses.
