Kiss And Tell

We look forward to kisses–first kiss, special kiss, meaningful kiss–and we treasure them in fantasy and memory. Our kisses signify hope, trust, and promise, and we imbue them with a significance that they can’t always live up to . . . but sometimes surpass.

KISS AND TELL is a recollection page, a place where we can share those private moments in which the earth swelled and bells rang–or should have. What was it like for you? Relive the moment. Share with us. It’s okay to Kiss and Tell.

First Kiss–I’d deliberately waited until the time was right. The time was perfect. Dick and I were king and queen of the Heart Ball and had even won small scholarships representing the effort we had put into promoting the Heart Fund and healthy heart care. It was Valentine’s Day and snowing–that thick beautiful swirl of flakes that makes you forget the cold.

We left the dance early and had to walk down the middle of the street in the moonlight because the snowbanks and drifts were so high. We held each other close to block out the freezing wind and to isolate ourselves from all but each other, alone in the snow in the night.

When we reached my house, we climbed the porch stairs and stood in the lamplight in front of the door–awkward, nervous, and alive with anticipation. It was a romantic moment…shattered only by the kiss.

It was kind of a When Harry Met Sally moment. I was sitting on the edge of the piano stool, feeling sad about life in general, boys in particular, a particular boy. My best friend Tee had dropped by to commiserate. I turned around and was surprised to find him standing next to me–he’d been across the room.

I stood up. He kissed me. And everything changed.
